faster asset retrieval across 4,000+ assets

Adopted as the source of truth by 2–3 teams and 4–8 designers.

The problem

Design output was growing faster than the infrastructure behind it. Work was spread across ad hoc files with no shared source of truth, so designers rebuilt components, icons and illustrations from scratch or hunted through old files for something close enough to reuse.

It's a quiet but expensive problem: duplicated work, visual inconsistency across pages, and slower ramp-up for anyone new to a project.

The approach

Architected 15+ Figma repositories as single-source-of-truth libraries: structured, maintained systems other designers build directly on top of, not just component files.

Built an asset taxonomy across 12+ subfolders for 4,000+ icons, illustrations and components, organised around how designers actually search (by type, by use case, by product area) so the structure does the work memory used to.

Then drove adoption across teams, so people actually used the shared libraries day to day instead of drifting back to one-off files.

Impact

  • 15+ Figma repos, single-source-of-truth libraries other designers build directly on top of.
  • 4,000+ assets organised across 12+ subfolders, by how designers actually search.
  • Less time hunting for the right component, more time using it.
